The past two weeks at Little Corner Academy have been packed with excitement as we explored sports and the many different types of balls and equipment used in games and activities!

Our little learners investigated which balls roll and which do not, making predictions and testing their ideas through hands-on play. Children compared sizes, shapes, textures, and movement while discovering how different sports use different equipment. From soccer balls and basketballs to footballs and tennis balls, our students enjoyed learning what makes each one unique and how athletes use them.

We incorporated academics into every part of our exploration. Children practiced counting balls, sorting by color and size, identifying shapes, recognizing letters, and using descriptive language to compare objects. These engaging activities helped strengthen early math, literacy, and critical thinking skills while keeping learning fun and meaningful.

As always, our biggest focus remains on helping children build strong friendships and positive play skills. Throughout our sports unit, students worked together, took turns, shared equipment, encouraged one another, and celebrated each other's successes. These social interactions provide valuable opportunities to develop confidence, communication, and cooperation.

Our Early Learning, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy teams continued to weave individualized and group goals into classroom activities. Children practiced communication skills through play, vocabulary building, following directions, and social interactions. Fine and gross motor development were supported through throwing, catching, rolling, kicking, and other movement-based activities that encouraged coordination, strength, and body awareness.

We are so proud of the growth we've seen as our students learned through play, exploration, and teamwork. Watching them discover new concepts, build friendships, and develop important life skills reminds us that some of the best learning happens when children are actively engaged and having fun with friends.
